A recently Trump-nominated federal judge, Jeffrey Kuntz, has assumed control of President Trump's $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC regarding a Panorama episode's editing of his January 6, 2021 Capitol speech. Kuntz, who was nominated in April and confirmed by the Senate in July, replaces Judge Roy Altman, another Trump appointee, in this case along with 16 others transferred to him upon his appointment to Florida's Southern District Court. The judge's appointment has raised conflict of interest concerns since he previously ruled favorably for Trump in a separate defamation case against the Pulitzer Prize board while reportedly already in discussions about his federal court nomination.
